As the home of football, England has the oldest national team in the world. They played in the first-ever international game, a 0-0 draw with Scotland in Glasgow in 1872. England won the World Cup in London in 1966 with a famous 4-2 victory over West Germany at Wembley Stadium. The match is remembered for Geoff Hurst's hat-trick, the still-controversial third goal, and Kenneth Wolstenholme's "they think it's all over..." commentary. Despite their rich footballing pedigree, the "Three Lions" have failed to reach another World Cup final and have never won the European Championship. The closest they have come was semi-final defeats in the 1990 World Cup and the 1996 Euros, both to arch-rivals Germany. English footballing heroes over the years have included Stanley Matthews, Nat Lofthouse, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Gordon Banks, Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Wayne Rooney. Here at New Vintage Football we have re-created all of the most iconic kits from the history of the English national team.
