The “Azzurri” were the first European team to win the Jules Rimet trophy, with back to back successes in 1930 and 1934. In 1970 Italy reached the final in Mexico but lost to Brazil 4-1. They avenged that defeat in the semi-finals in Spain 1982, before claiming a third World Cup with victory over West Germany.
