Home to the third-oldest national football association, after England and Scotland, Wales has occasionally punched above its weight in footballing terms and produced some legendary stars. Wales' first-ever international match was a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Scotland in 1876, two years later the same opponents put nine goals past them in what remains their record loss. But at least things could only get better from there. By 1958 Wales reached their first, and to date only, World Cup and went on to the quarter-finals in Sweden. They had to wait much longer for their first European Championships appearance, in 2016, but when it did come they went all the way to the semi-finals. Wales also holds the record for the biggest rise in the history of the FIFA World Rankings, from 117th in 2011 to 8th in just four years. Great Welsh players over the years have included John Charles, John Toshack, Neville Southall, Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Ryan Giggs, and Gareth Bale. Here at New Vintage Football we have re-created the most famous kits of the Welsh national team.
